Our History

1
In April of 1987, the Reverend Dr. Hills Lloyd Norris founded Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Baptist Church.

After many years of service Dr. Norris retired and MLK selected the Reverend Timothy Brown to be their next pastor. After Rev. Brown, MLK decided to call the Reverend Andre Rogers to serve as their third pastor in June of 2005. In August of 1999, Pastor Rogers founded Church of the Open Door. He was COTOD’s only pastor from conception. Pastor Rogers served as pastor of both MLK and COTOD simultaneously for four years.

In the summer of 2008 the Lord began to move on the heart of Pastor Rogers to merge Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Baptist Church and Church of the Open Door.

Dr. Norris was one of the first to hear and bless this new vision for the two church bodies. Immediately, Pastor Rogers sought the wisdom of leaders such as The Reverend William “Bill” Dieckman (Director of Columbia Metro Baptist Association), Dr. Patrick Blewett , The Reverend Andre T. Melvin (Pastor of the Temple Zion Baptist Church) and his father, Elder Harvey Rogers III (Pastor of Berean Church of God in Christ). Pastor Rogers then met with key leaders at both churches to discuss the possible merger. It was unanimous from the beginning!

After much prayer, meetings and meaningful discussions, it was decided that we would have preview services over the next year once a quarter on the fifth Sundays, to allow the congregations to get better acquainted.

During that time the pastor, deacons and trustees met regularly to discuss the structure, by-laws, budget, and leadership of the new church. One of the many goals is the erection of a new worship center. The name of this new work would be Concord Fellowship Baptist Church. The Lord blessed our coming together which led to our merger on September 13, 2009.

The Lord has smiled on us. Since we have merged there has been a lot of unity and peace in Concord Fellowship! The Lord has added some great families to help evangelize and serve the community!
